Digital innovation is key when it comes to attracting and retaining workforce talent, a survey of nearly 2,000 New Zealanders has revealed, with 18 per cent of citizens citing ‘clever use of technology’ as a major factor in selecting an employer.
IBRS research commissioned by leading supplier of enterprise solutions for government, education and councils, TechnologyOne, shows that ‘clever use of technology’ goes beyond increased productivity and internet speed. With 50.3 per cent of workers rating accuracy and quality of work as the most or second most important goal of workplace technology, followed by communication and collaboration (38.6 per cent) and improved client services (36.7 per cent).
The research also showed that more workplaces are investing in digital transformation than ever with an estimated 80 per cent of mid-sized organisations now using Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions or at least one core business function, and by 2025 that will be approaching 95 per cent, with financial solutions and CRM leading the charge.
Interviews with individuals identified that businesses that embrace technology demonstrate an innovative mindset, adaptability, and commitment to staying ahead of industry trends.
Dr Joseph Sweeney, IBRS Senior Advisor who led the research said: “Clever use of technology is essential for job seekers, particularly those from stable economic backgrounds, as they perceive organisations with innovative technology as forward-thinking, adaptable, and committed to staying ahead of industry trends."
“These findings reinforce the positive impact investment into the digitalisation of core systems has on businesses, not only freeing up resources but putting them well ahead of competitors when it comes to finding and retaining great talent.”
More than three years of remote work has made New Zealanders more critical than ever of their workplace technology, with the research finding workers rating their workplace technology with a satisfaction score of -13.
John Mazenier, TechnologyOne Country Manager for New Zealand said: "Despite employers doing their best to draw their workforce back into the office, remote work and flexibility won’t be going away any time soon. And most New Zealanders have robust technology at home to support remote working. So, it is no surprise that most staff set the benchmark for their workplace technology against what they have at home.”
“The importance of positive digital experiences goes beyond the customer – it directly impacts employee engagement, so it is imperative organisations leverage technology that not only enhances productivity but fosters employee satisfaction, engagement, and growth.”
In today’s increasingly competitive landscape, investing in digital innovation gives regional organisations like councils and universities an upper hand in attracting and retaining talent. SaaS not only facilitates seamless operations, fosters collaboration, and enhances productivity but can unlock efficiencies and savings.
